Did you know? Wild Rivers has purchased an Accuquilt GO! Big fabric cutter. It’s big, safe, accurate, fast, and easy to use! Members can use the Accuquilt during Open Sews. The amount of time you’ll have to use it can be worked out the day of Open Sew with the other quilters who want to use it.
Laurie C is graciously sharing dies from her personal library for us to use while the Guild builds up a stock of basics and develops laminated instructions for use. Jodi P has provided a rag quilt die (amazing!) for use.
In the meantime, here are a few tips from Laurie & Jodi:
- Review Laurie’s die list and contact Laurie C with your die needs and date you plan to use them. She’ll make the dies available for that day.
- There are many wonderful patterns available at Accuquilt (how to download video) – and they are FREE to download on Fridays if you set up an account with them.
- Fabric should be ironed before using the Accuquilt.
- Some precutting may be necessary, and for some dies, is required (eg rag quilt die)
- Orient the fabric so the selvage is parallel to the die as it is being fed (there is some room in the travel path to stuff the excess fabric through.) This provides a more stabile and accurate cut.
- Rub the matt after cutting to release the fabric, and slide off the matt.
- When done with the die, be sure to carefully clean out any fabric shreds that remain caught in the die. There is a tool for this.
